A new USB-enabled saucepan, which went on the market in Japan earlier in the week, would allow users to charge mobile phones without a wired power outlet.

The pot, which Crunch Gear reported is safe for use over an open flame, uses the excess energy produced by the flames to charge cell batteries.

"[The pot's maker] says that an iPhone, for example, takes 3-5 hours to be charged completely. They pitch the pot by saying that it could be used in the case of an emergency or in areas with no power."
