FYI, this story is more than a year old

Telecom has launched the Motorola Xoom onto the New Zealand market, in an attempt to show off the power of its XT network while at the same time providing some competition for Apple’s iPad.

The Xoom, built on the Android 3.0 ‘Honeycomb’ platform, will be available online or through Telecom stores from tomorrow, at a recommended retail price of $1,149.

Telecom chief marketing officer, Kieren Cooney, says the Xoom is exactly the kind of device the XT network was built for.

"You’ve got truly fast internet at your fingertips,” Cooney says, "so you can connect with friends, do business on the move or just relax and surf the web from your couch.”

The Xoom features a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 10.1-inch, 1200x800 widescreen HD display.
