Sony launches twin tablets - Updated
Thu, 1st Sep 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Sony has launched its new Android tablets, the single-screen Tablet S and dual-screen Tablet P, at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.

Analysts say Sony may be coming to the tablet market too late, but with the trouble HP and Samsung have gotten into it seems the slow approach may have been the better option.

Launching the devices, chief executive Howard Stringer told the audience, "We want to prove it’s not who makes it first that counts, but who makes it better.”

The tablet P in particular demonstrates a new design concept for the market, with its dual screens split down a foldable centre line.

Sony New Zealand hasn’t come back with pricing and availability here, but internationally the Tablet S will go on sale on September 16, at US$499 for the 16GB model and US$599 for the 32GB version. The Tablet P will follow shortly afterwards.

Update: Sony NZ says wi-fi versions of the Tablet S in 16GB and 32GB configurations will be available in New Zealand in November this year.

The Tablet P and 3G Tablet S will arrive in early 2012. No indication has been given as to price.
