In a recent update from Trade Me, the company said that job hunter numbers ended the year on a high, “with more Kiwis visiting Trade Me Jobs than any other job board in October and December”.

Seek openly disagreed, coming back to us with, “We define leadership by being the best job site, by having the most jobs, and of course by having the most active job seeking audience.

"Seek's total unique browser audience was higher than any other job site every month last year, which is a true reflection of all potential candidates including expats considering a return to New Zealand.

We passed that response over to Pete Ashby, Head of Trade Me Jobs, who admitted that while Seek does have more jobs, it's Trade Me that reaches more Kiwi job-seekers.

“Obviously we'd disagree that Seek is the best job website. We think Trade Me Jobs winning the NetGuide award for best employment site, which is voted on by job-seekers, is pretty good evidence of that,” he added.

Ashby's offensive continued: “We actually had more domestic visitors in January too, which means we've led the way on the domestic unique visitors front for three out of the last four months. What that also means is that if you're looking for Kiwis: use Trade Me Jobs and if you're looking to get overseas applicants, use someone else.
